Although human beings are born with a desire to love, and eventually choose a person to marry, the rite of passage is not always a smooth journey.
We believe that the wedding preparations are also an opportunity for couples to grow in love, friendship, communication and understanding. They can learn the tools to overcome challenges that arise during the wedding planning, and this will help build a stronger foundation for the wedding day and beyond.

Many other cultures offer “rite of passage” ceremonies that metaphysically, physically and emotionally prepare the bride and groom for their new life together. Although they may not be ideal, they do offer some insights into the transition from me to we.
Our culture concentrates mostly on the homogenized catered affair, which can be wonderful, but may lead to excessive stress and/or disaster i.e. bridezilla, bridal jitters, overwhelm and the runaway bride syndrome.
The quest for perfection and the ideal wedding often interfere with the relationship of the bride and groom as well as their friends and family. And all the skeletons in the closet emerge in full bloom!

Couples sometimes need a little help to remember why they are getting married, how to be true to themselves, have a wedding that reflects that, and which sets the tone and foundation for their wedding and beyond..

Managing Stress is one of the first steps. It’s easier to remember those things when you are calm, relaxed, and enjoying the process!

You can get a book, or you can hire a professional. Both of these choices offer a totally essential element – your tools for organizing.
Being organized is the key to a stress free wedding. If you absolutely can’t organize, then you need to find help immediately. Perhaps you have a friend who’s willing to take on the task of organizing your wedding. If you don’t, consider hiring someone to do it for you.

A professional Wedding Planner would be advantageous: she/he will be a master at organizing and equipped with experience that only someone who has been through a lot of weddings can have.

Your wedding planner will be great at helping you negotiate for the best services and the best prices from vendors. They can even act as an intermediary between you and your family member’s opinions. A professional can take care of everything while you simply relax and enjoy the journey.

In many cases, the cost of the wedding planner is offset by the money they will save you by using their connections and negotiating skills to get you the things you need to fulfill your dream.

Whether you want to save money in your wedding planning or want to be sure it is extra special and personalized, a reception is the focal point. While your ceremony will be short and whir by, your reception is where guests will let loose and celebrate. A do it yourself wedding reception is a party to be remembered!
You can do all the elements of a wedding reception yourself: food, entertainment, music, favors, drinks, centerpieces, other decorations and the dreaded clean-up afterwards…but it might be safer for you to look over the following idea.

Unique Wedding Reception Idea: Wine Tasting for a Wine Wedding Theme

If you are looking for a unique wedding reception idea and especially if you are having a wine wedding theme, a wine tasting at your reception is the perfect fit for you! A wine tasting at a reception is a fun way for guests to entertain themselves, especially the guests who aren’t as interested in dancing. Besides sampling and talking about the different wines, guests are also drinking and having a good time. A wine tasting at your wedding reception is also an excellent icebreaker for guests who don’t know each other.

Certainly if you are having a wine wedding theme, a wine tasting is nothing new to you, but it still is a unique wedding reception idea and fits perfectly with your theme! Rather than cheesy games, have a wine tasting table. A wine tasting table will add an element of sophistication and class to your wedding reception.

What You’ll Need For a Wedding Reception Wine Tasting

Table -- A separate table, preferably off to the side of the reception area that will strictly be the wine tasting table.

Sign -- Some sort of sign that identifies the table as a “wine tasting” table since this is a unique wedding reception idea...guests might not be familiar with the format. Perhaps another sign (or printed papers) listing the wines available to taste, including producer, vintage, region where it is from, etc.

Glasses -- Several tasting wine glasses are necessary. Extras can be stored under the table (cover table with fabric that drapes so it is hidden) so they don’t take up too much room on the table surface.

Wine -- Offer at least four different wines. You can offer two reds and two whites. You could offer all reds from the same wine region, or an assortment of wines from the same vintage. Select wines that compliment your wine wedding theme. Have several bottles of each wine you are offering, depending on your number of guests. Remember, these wines are for tasting not for gulping down, so you don’t need to have enough to get everyone drunk, that is what the other booze is for.

Ice Buckets -- If you are offering white wines at your tasting table you will need ice buckets for each different white to chill them.

Host -- Someone needs to supervise and “host” the wine tasting table so that guests don’t simply poor huge glasses of wine to gulp down and walk away. A host can be a hired person provided by a catering service or a special wine enthusiastic friend. This person can pour the wine and even answer questions about them if needed.

Optional: Spit Buckets, Bread, Water -- A spit bucket is offered so that guests can spit out the wines instead of swallowing. This is optional and most likely since it is a wine wedding theme reception, not needed. A small basket of bread can be available for guests to cleanse their palate and water can be available to rinse glasses in between wines. These items are optional.

The Wedding Budget Brain

The “Wedding Brain,” can envelop you in a fog. You might actually believe that you can afford to buy a dress that’s significantly more expensive than your budget. In fact, you can even be talked into it. You might decide that you absolutely, positively, have to have a particular kind of champagne for your reception, even after you find out that it will cost you $150 a bottle, not $50. A florist may present you with a number of gorgeous options, and you suddenly must have the white orchids instead of the white roses you had in your budget.

Of course, this kind of thinking is like a freight train. Once it gets started, it sort of propels itself forward. You choose a different dress, and then you have to have the shoes that go with it. Suddenly, your flowers look too plain with your new dress. Before you know it, you have gone into hundreds or even thousands of dollars over budget.

Stick to your budget and priorities and it will pay off!

Again, the answer is in being yourself, grounding yourself, paying attention to what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. If you’re trying to be something you’re not, it’s an extremely expensive proposition!

Stop, Look, and Listen.

At every step of the wedding process you need to:

Stop: Assess who you are and who you are trying to be for the wedding.

Look: Stay grounded. Analyze the amount of money you have to spend, and create your wedding budget accordingly.

Listen: Listen to your own body, and your own inner voice. If you feel frantic and anxious and if your thoughts are racing, go back to “Stop.” Re-assess.
